George Francis Raffen was born in Adelaide, South Australia on the 10th of March 1891. He lived in Glenelg before embarking at age 24 on the 18th of January 1916. He served for around 15 months as a Private in the 10th Battalion and returned to Australia on the 21st of July 1917. Before emarkment he was married to Mrs E E Raffen.
