Biography contributed by John Edwards

Gary Collis writes:- "I am a Great Nephew of George. He was the son of Fredrick Edward and Alice Collis. His brother was Fredrick Arthur William Collis, and his sister was May Collis"

"Our Soldier Heroes. PRIVATE G. COLLIE.

Word was received in Numurkah on Thursday evening that Private George Collie had been killed in action, and the sad news cast quite a gloom over the town, expressions of sincere sympathy with the parents being heard on every side. The deceased soldier was the elder son of Mr and Mrs G. Collie, who last month moved from Numurkah and went to Gisborne to live, and was fine stamp of a young man, his gentlemanly conduct making him a general favourite. The nation has lost a most promising citizen and the parents a devoted son." - from the Numurkah Standard and Wunghnu, Cobram, Yarroweyah and Strathmerton Advocate 21 Feb 1917 (nla.gov.au)
