Brother of William Foxford who was killed in action on 12 October 1917 while serving with the 35th Battalion and is buried in the Buttes New British Cemetery, Polygon Wood, Belgium. Plot V, Row B, Grave 9; also brother of Albert Foxford, Edmund A. Foxford and Agnes Foxford

Commenced return to Australia on 2 June 1919 aboard HT Beltana disembarking on the 19 July 1919

During 1926 John married Caroline Johncke in Hamilton, NSW

81 years ago today, on the Tuesday afternoon of the 2nd June 1942, Lance Sergeant John Harold Foxford, referred to as Jack, 53rd Battalion (Reg No-75A), labourer from 62 Lawson Street, Hamilton, New South Wales and 143 Cleary Street, Hamilton, N.S.W., father of three (Joan, Esma, John), was laid to rest with a military funeral at Sandgate Cemetery, age 51. ANGLICAN 3-161. 20.

Born at Wallsend, New South Wales on the 14th October 1890 to John Harold and Catherine Foxford of 11 Lawson Street, Hamilton, N.S.W.; husband of Caroline (Carrie) Foxford nee Johncke (married 1926, Hamilton, N.S.W., died 8.2.1960, age 54, sleeping here), Jack enlisted on the 9th January 1916 with the 35th Battalion, (Reg No-75), at Newcastle, N.S.W.
Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A24 Benalla on the 1st May 1916.

Admitted to hospital 13.12.1916 (rheumatism), 17.12.1916 (myalgia).

Wounded in action - 18.5.1917 (SW left thigh - note, Second Battle of Bullecourt had finished on the 17th May 1917).

Granted leave to England from the 10.10.1917 to the 26.10.1917.

Jack returned home on the 19th July 1919, being discharged on the 4th September 1919.

Mr. Foxford’s name has been inscribed on the Hamilton (Gregson Park) War Memorial, Hamilton Superior Public School Roll of Honor.

I have placed poppies at Jack’s gravesite, which is in urgent need of restoration, in remembrance of his service and sacrifice for God, King & Country.

Plot V Row B Grave 9, father of one (Joyce Valerie Foxford, born 10.9.1916) awaiting memorialisation at the cemetery. METHODIST 1 (WESLEYAN) F NE. 52.
