"VIANT.- Died of wounds, June 3, 1917, in France, Private Frederick William Viant of the 44th Battalion, aged 18 years and 4 months.
A mother's heart is aching, For a son she loved so well, He gave his life for his country, In honour's cause he fell.
God is kind, He'll give me grace, To bear my heavy loss, He is the only one who knows, How bitter is my loss.
- Inserted by his loving mother, Alice Viant." - from the Western Australian 03 Jul 1917 (nla.gov.au)
