Next of kin-Father, W Murphy, Cootamundra, New South Wales.
Enlistment date-31 August 1915-Cootamundra, New South Wales-Private-2nd Battalion, 14th Reinforcement.

Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board RMS Osterley on 15 January 1916-he was then aged 21.
Returned to Australia 4 May 1917
28 August 1917- Sydney (medically unfit), but later re-enlisted.

War service: Egypt, Western Front

Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 29 March 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 4 April 1916.

Admitted to 26th General Hospital, Etaples, 29 May 1916 (bronchitis); transferred to England, 25 June 1916, and admitted to 1st Northern General Hospital, 26 June 1916; transferred to Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, 9 August 1916; discharged on furlough, to report to No 1 Command Depot, Perham Downs, 14 August 1916.

Detached for duty with AIF War Chest Club, 1 September 1916; ceased duty with AIF War Chest Club, 26 November 1916.

Admitted to 2nd Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Southall, 26 November 1916 (influenza); discharged to duty with AIF Headquarters, 30 November 1916.

Granted furlough, 22 December 1916; marched into AIF Headquarters from furlough, 27 December 1916.

Marched out to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 23 February 1917.

Marched in to No 1 Command Depot, Perham Downs, 24 February 1917.

Marched in to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 16 March 1917, and posted to No 1 Company, Weatham.

Re-enlisted in the Australian Naval &Military Expeditionary Force, 30 October 1919. Embarked Sydney as 1947 Private, on board SS 'Melusia', 13 November 1919; served at Rabaul in Military Police; commenced return to Australia from Rabaul on board SS 'Melusia', 24 December 1920; discharged again in Sydney (medically unfit), 1 February 1921.
