Born 19.7.1874 to Charles (convict) & Janet Smith in Longford, Tasmania. Departed 28.10.1899, returned 7.12.1900.
Enlisted WW1 on 28.2.1916 in Rockhampton, he was 41 yrs. & 7 months old,5 foot 6 ¾ inches, grey eyes, brown hair & medium complexion.
Embarked from Brisbane on 16.8.1916 aboard Boorara, disembarked Plymouth, England on 13.10.1916. Embarked for France on 12.12.1916.
25.4.1918 returned to Australia & discharged on 11.6.1918.

MR. EDWARD PACKETT
The death occurred recently of Mr. Edward Packett, on his farm at Kelsey Creek. He was 71 years of age. Mr. Packett, who was well-known in Proserpine and district, was bom at
Hobart, Tasmania. He was unmarried.
Arriving in Mackay in 1908 Mr. Packett followed farming pursuits, being in partnership with Mr. Mallow, who, it is understood resides in Sydney. When the Great War broke out he enlisted and saw four years' service. Upon his return he took up farming again. He left the farm in 1937 and went gold mining at Normanby, about 50 miles from Proserpine. Prior to the World War he went farming again, being interested in a farm on the share basis in the Kelsey Creek district. He was a Boer' War veteran.
A sister resides in Sydney and other relatives reside in Tasmania. He was interred in the Proserpine cemetery. A Union Jack was draped over the coffin.
