He was leading bayonet man of his party in the assault and by his aggressive and determined use of the bayonet, materially contributes to the succcess of the operation. He personally accounted for several of the enemy Commonwealth of Australia Gazette - 7 August 1918 on page 1658 at position 2 London Gazette - 25 April 1918 on page 5037 at position 41
