William John NEWLING was born in Beaufort, Victoria in 1883 although he stated on his war record it was 7th May 1888

His parents were Paul NEWLING & Mary Ann GORDON who married in Victoria in 1860

He married Lillian Mary WALKER (Queenie) in Mount Hawthorn, Western Australia in 1905

He served in both WW1 and WW2 & was discharged on 4th February, 1942 as a Private with Y Company

William died in Wembley, Perth, Western Australia on 2nd November, 1943 and is buried in Karrakatta Cemetery

Three of his son served during WW2 and were all Prisoners of War and lost their lives

1. Oswald Kitchener NEWLING (WX17458) died of Malaria on 22nd October, 1943

2. Rolf Walker NEWLING (WX8865) died during a death march on 13th June 1946

3. Rexford Frank NEWLING (WX8432) died of Malaria on 29th September, 1943

Another brother John Gordon NEWLING died in Western Australia on 22nd June 1946 in a motor cycle accident
