63 years ago today, on the 18th January 1961, Private James William Prince, 2nd Australian Light Horse Brigade (Machine Gun Squadron, Reg No-2230), farmer from Appletree Flat, Mudgee, New South Wales and Hamilton?, N.S.W., was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 63. METHODIST 4-28. 45.

Born at Mudgee, New South Wales on the 16th October 1897 to Charles and Mary Prince; husband of Minnie Alberta Prince nee Fenwick (married 1923, Sydney, N.S.W., died 8.9.1975, Newcastle, N.S.W., age 74, sleeping here.

James enlisted on the 26th August 1915 with the 7th Australian Light Horse Regiment, 15th Reinforcement, at Lithgow, N.S.W.

Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A67 Orsova on the 11th March 1916.

Admitted to hospital 13.7.1916 (pyrexia), 13.10.1917 (malaria), 1.8.1918 (malaria).

Commenced return to Australia 28.6.1919.

James arrived home on the 3rd August 1919, being discharged on the 25th September 1919.

Mr. Prince’s name has been inscribed on the Gulgong and Mudgee District Roll of Honor. A member of the All Nations Lodge, G.U.U.O.O.F.

I have placed poppies and a 1914-1918 WAR label at James’s gravesite in remembrance of his service and sacrifice for God, King & Country.
