3 May 1917: Honoured Military Cross, Bullecourt (Second), Recommendation: For conspicuous gallantry and most valuable service in command of a company during the attack on the BULLECOURT trenches on 3rd May 1917. Without the high soldierly qualities of endurance and devotion to duty under heavy shell and M.G fire displayed by these parties and this Officer in particular it would have been impossible to keep the troops supplied sufficiently to retain the taken trenches and in spite of a severe wound he remained on duty until his party were relieved after most exhausting & dangerous tour.
5 May 1917: Wounded AIF WW1, Lieutenant, 22nd Infantry Battalion, Bullecourt (Second), SW to right arm. Evacuated to UK. Rejoined unit 19 July 1917.
