PRIVATE VYNER EVANS JONES
Private Vyner Evans Jones (wounded), 1st Infantry Brigade, 1st Battalion, 24 years of age, is a son of Mr. A. A. Jones, accountant at Messrs. T. H. Mate and Co. He is a native of Albury, and particularly well known because of his all round athletic ability. For two years he played forward on the wing with the Albury senior football club, and brilliant, steady play won him distinction. He was in the front as a runner, and won several medals for footracing and polo on skates. Whilst in Egypt he is reported to have won his heat in the footracing event for championship of 1st Battalion, but the troops left for the Dardanelles before the finals were run. For several years Private Jones was an employee at the Albury Butter Factory. Later he joined the relief staff of the Railway Department, and was at Wagga when he enlisted.
