William Arthur Bunyon was born in approximately September 1892 and lived in Adelaide, South Australia. Bunyon was aged 23 years old and 5 months when embarking for war, his height was 5’3 and his weight was 55kg (123 lb). His chest measurement was around 85cm, his complexion was considered medium, and he had hazel eyes and brown hair. Before joining the war, his occupation was an iron moulder, meaning he was a foundry worker who created iron casting moulds. William did not have any previous military service on his record before fighting in World War I. Bunyon was single man, and his religion was Christianity as his religious denomination the Church of England. His next of kin was his mother, Mrs Mary Ann Bunyon, until it was declared that she was deceased on June 19th, 1916, with documentary evidence. His brother, Sidney Bunyon, then became William’s next of kin. William Arthur Bunyon was an Australian solider who fought for half of World War I.
Bunyon was enlisted at age 23 on the 8th of February in 1916 and was ranked a Private. His regimental number was 2892 and his unit was the 32nd Battalion in the 6th Reinforcement. William’s unit embarked from Adelaide, South Australia on the 11th of April in 1916, on board HMAT A60 Aeneas. William embarked with the British Expeditionary Force on the 20th of June in 1916 and then disembarked on the 30/6/1916 and proceeded to join the 32nd Battalion in 27/7/16 in Etaples. He was taken on strength by the 32nd Battalion on the 2/8/1916 in France. Arthur Bunyon’s records suggest that he was admitted to hospital several times due to sickness such as influenza, myalgia, bronchitis and malaria but also rejoined the war various times and fought in places such as France and Ex England. William was wounded in action by gas on the 23rd of March 1918 and was discharged on the 26th of April 1918. William Arthur Bunyon returned to Australia on the 10th of June in 1919.
