On 26 November 1920 May signed a Statuatory Declaration stating the Harold was born prior to May's marriage to Alfred and was christened under May's madien name of Flavel. He then assumed the surname of Cooper following May's marriage to Alfred at which time he was about two years of age

Son of May Cooper nee Flavel and stepson of Alfred Cooper of Sandy Grove, Kingston, SA

Brother of Walter Stanley Cooper who returned to Australia on 15 July 1919 having served with the 48th Battalion; Sydney Roy Cooper who died on wounds on 11 April 1917 while serving with the 48th Battalion and has no known grave
