C. W. ADEY enlisted in October 1914 and embarked from Australia in February 1915 as Corporal in 3rd L.H. Field Ambulance for Egypt.
He took part in the Battles of Bir-el-abd in August 1916 and of Rafa in January 1917 in the Sinai Desert campaign.

In January 1917 he was promoted to Staff Sergeant, and in that
year took part in the Palestine campaign, being in the fighting around Beersheba in November and Ramleh in December 1917.

In February 1918 he returned to Australia in order to complete
his medical course , but before he could do this the Armistice occurred and he was discharged in December 1918.

Dr. Charles William Adey (55), senior medical officer at the Commonwealth serum laboratories, Royal Park, Melbourne, died in Melbourne last night after a short illness.
