Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks

William Bernard Tyler was the son of William Bernard Tyler and Emily Tyler, of Goondiwindi, Queensland.

Six weeks prior, William’s older brother, 419 Pte. Samuel Alloisous Tyler 13th Machine Gun Company, had been killed in action near Ypres in Belgium, on 27 September 1917, aged 39.

Neither brother had a known grave and are remembered on the Jerusalem Memorial in Palestine and the Menin Gate Memorial in Belgium.

Their mother Emily received the news of the death of her two sons over the period of a fortnight.

A third brother, 1746 Pte. Hubert John Tyler 42nd Battalion AIF, fought on the Western Front and was returned to Australia during June 1919.
