Biography contributed by Adelaide Botanic High School

George Simpson Harry fought for Australia in World War One as a part of the 32nd Infantry Battalion. He embarked from Australia to Egypt on the 18th of November 1915 aboard HMAT A2 Geelong. He wouldn't have seen much action in Egypt, seeing that he was only enlisted for 5 months before he accidentally shot himself in the finger during a training drill. After this he was taken to a hospital in Heliopolis where he would stay until the 10th of May 1916. The wound resulted in his right index finger being amputated. He would later leave back home for Australia. He received a 1914-15 Star medal, A Britsh War Medal, a Victory Medal and was later placed on the Magill Honour Board.
