104 years ago today, on the 11th March 1917, Private Adrian Croese, 35th Battalion (Lewis Machine Gun Section, Reg No-1634), linesman from the corner of Crebert and Vine Streets, Mayfield, New South Wales, was Killed in Action at Armentieres, France, age 26.
Born at Mayfield, New South Wales on the 26th December 1890 to Cornelius (died 1938 - and Jane Croese nee Whitelaw, Adrian enlisted February 1916 at Newcastle, N.S.W.
Mr Croese’s name has been inscribed on the Waratah Park Memorial Gates, Mayfield Public School Honour Roll, Newcastle Postal Employees Roll of Honour and The Capt. Clarence Smith Jeffries (V.C.) and Pte. William Matthew Currey (V.C.) Memorial Wall.

Adrian CROESE was born in 1891 in Waratah, New South Wales His parents were Cornelius CROESE and Jane WHITLAW The family lived in Crebert St Mayfield S/N 1634 Adrian enlisted on 18th February, 1916 in Newcastle as a Private with 35th Battalion, Unit embarked Sydney on HMAT Benalla in May 1916 He was killed in action in France on 11th March, 1917 Buried Cite Bonjean Military Cemetery Plot V, row A,grave 35- Armentieres, France He is also commemorated on the Soldiers memorial Waratah Park Memorial Gates
