Let us remember a Fallen soldier of The Great War memorialised at Mimi Cemetery, N.S.W.
On the 13th October 1917, Lance Corporal James Muir, referred to as Jim, 34th Battalion (Reg No-842), miner (Aberdare Colliery), from Cungewai Street, Aberdare, New South Wales, father of two (Winifred (Winnie), William (Willie), was Killed in Action by an enemy artillery shell fragment, age 36 years 10 months, 1st Battle of Passchendaele, Belgium.
Born at Minmi, New South Wales on the 6th December 1880 to William (died 4.10.1927, Minmi, N.S.W., age 80, buried at Left Hand Side, Section 15, Plot 068), from Newtown, Minmi, New South Wales, and Agnes Muir nee Lorimer (died 29.11.1927, Minmi, N.S.W., age 78, mother of 7?, sleeping at Left Hand Side, Section 15, Plot 068), from Newtown, Minmi, New South Wales; husband of Sarah Muir nee Knott (married 1908, Minmi, N.S.W., died?), from Cungewai Street, Aberdare, New South Wales and Northcote Street, Aberdare, N.S.W. (1919).
Jim enlisted on the 22nd January 1916, age 35 years 1 month, at West Maitland, N.S.W.
Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A20 Hororata on the 2nd May 1916.
Disembarked Plymouth, England 23.6.1916.
Proceeded O/Seas to France from Southampton, England 21.11.1916.
Promoted Lance Corporal 30.7.1917.
Jim’s name has been inscribed on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial (Panel 23), Belgium.
Place of Association - Aberdare, New South Wales, Australia.
Mr. Muir’s name has also been inscribed on the Aberdare Memorial Gates, unveiled on the 5th September 1925, 105 names inscribed, Minmi St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church Roll of Honour and the Cessnock War Memorial.
I have placed poppies at the memorialised Knott gravesite in remembrance of the service and supreme sacrifice of Jim, (son-in-law), for God, King & Country. Left Hand Side, Section 18, Plot 022.

(1939), enlisted 1.5.1916, age 29 years 5 months, West Maitland, N.S.W., 2nd Australian Tunnelling Company, Reg No-5787, Sapper, unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria on board HMAT A38 Ulysses on the 25th October 1916, wounded in action - 12.3.1918 (gas), commenced return to Australia 7.7.1919, RTA 8.9.1919, died 29.8.1969, Gosford, N.S.W., age 82 years 9 months - MUIR, William, death notice 29th AUG 1969, age 82, late of Matcham, Sydney Morning Herald, 30th AUG 1969, MUIR, William, funeral notice, 29th AUG 1969, Creightons Funeral Services (Central Coast), 31st AUG 1969, buried or ashes interred?, not officially commemorated, name inscribed on the Minmi Roll of Honour and the Minmi St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church Roll of Honour.
