Son of Michael Thomas Delahunty and Matilda Mary Delahunty (later known as Matilda Cottrell) of Morven, Culcain, Victoria.

Brother of Michael Thomas Delahunty who commenced his return to Australia on 19 April 1919 on board HT Marathon having served with the 23rd Batalion. Disembarked on 10 June 1919 having been wounded on 2 occasions. Daniel was also brother of Margaret Mary Delahunty of Morven, Victoria
