Died on this date – 1st May.... Pivate Michael Phillip Geary was born in Marrickville, Sydney, NSW with his birth registered in 1896. He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) on 20th November, 1916 as a 21 year old Clerk.

Private Geary embarked from Sydney on HMAT Wiltshire (A18) on 7th February, 1917 with the 17th Infantry Battalion, 19th Reinforcements & disembarked at Devonport, England on 11th April, 1917 where he would receive further training before being sent to the War Front.

Private Geary was posted to 5th Training Battalion at Rollestone, Wiltshire on 11th April, 1917. He was admitted to Fargo Military Hospital, Wiltshire with Influenza on 18th April, 1917 & was reported seriously ill with Bronchitis on 23rd April, 1917.

Private Michael Phillip Geary died at 12.10 a.m. on 1st May, 1917 of Broncho-pneumonia at Fargo Military Hospital having spent 14 days in hospital.

Private Michael Phillip Geary was buried in Durrington Cemetery, Wiltshire, England where 140 other WW1 Australian War Graves are located.
