Born at Inverell in the NSW northern tablelands, Archibald Lang McIlveen was the only son, amoungst seven children, of auctioneer James McIlveen and his wife Mary (nee Mitchell).
Private Archie McIlveen was only three days shigh of his 24th birthday when he embarked at Sydney with the 1st Light Horse Brigade, 13th Reinforcements in HMAT A60 'Aeneas' bound for Egypt on 20 December, 1915.
Following reorganisation of the AIF in early 1916, he was transferred to the 5th Divisional Ammunition Column and posted to the Western Front. Promoted to Saddler Corporal he went through the war unscathed. He came home in the RMS 'Durham Castle', arriving in July, 1919.
Archie married Gunnedah girl, Ella Winifred Turner in Sydney during 1924 and acquired the property 'Clinton' at Gulligal near Gunnedah where the couple raised a family of nine, including two sets of twins.
Archibald Lang McIlveen died suddenly on Christamas Eve 1963 - he had just turned 72.
