Son of John Joyce CHAPMAN and Elizabeth Isabella nee TYALOR

Married 21 December 1916 in England to Evelyn May nee GRUMMITT

Believed at one stage, to be Headmaster of Knox Grammar, Wahroonga, NSW. He started his own school - The Killara Preparatory School at Killara in Sydney, NSW - and ran it with the help of his wife Evelyn.  The school was located, in its life, on at least two sites and was designed to act as a preparation for Sydney Greater Public Schools.  Newington College purchased the School when Chapman retired about 1954. The location of school remains at 24 Northcote Rd, Lindfield and Newington College utilised the school as its own Preparatory School.

Chapman produced the booklet “English Grammar Simplified - for use in Preparatory Schools” and wrote the book when Principal of Killara Preparatory

On retirement from teaching Chapman and his wife moved to 89 Greville St, Chatswood.
