In Memory of Alfred Ernest Slader - a poem
IN MEMORY OF ALFRED ERNEST SLADER
Australian Imperial Force, 2nd Light Horse
First World War 1914 - 1918
Cold and grey
came the dawn,
with icy breath that chilled the trees:
out of the mist
the sound of feet that marched and
and tramped on far Gallipoli's shore;
dim forms of men
outlined in shadows through the mist
and lost in dawn's soft glow.
The silence broke
and honour's call
to those who fought and died
on far Gallipoli's shore.
Victory won
but dearly bought.
