Edward was born in Charters Towers on 3 May 1892, son of Edward Coyte and Mary Ann Grainger. He enlisted on 4 Oct 1915 in Townsville    aged 23. 

He embarked from Sydney on 31 Mar 1916 per HMAT “Star of Victoria”.  

Private Coyte served on the Western Front with the 25th Battalion AIF.

He was wounded in Action on 5 Aug 1916 in France, with a gunshot wound to the foot.

He was wounded in action for the second time on 9 Oct 1917 in France with a gunshot wound to the right arm. His arm was amputated in the field. He was evacuated to England, and returned to Australia on 30 Jan 1918. He was discharged on 15 May 1918.

Edward was a locomotive engine driver. He married Florence Price on 21 Aug 1926.

He died on 15 Oct 1960.
