Biography contributed by Adelaide Botanic High School

Peter Cameron was born in Tantanoola, South Australia on the 29th of November 1879. He was the son of John and Margret Cameron. Instead of going to school, Peter was home schooled until he was old enough to go out and work. He then worked as a Barman and married Louisa Paulina Cameron. Peter was a tallish man for his time as the average height was 5’8 or 172cm tall with his height being 5’10 or 179cm he was taller than most. He then enlisted as an A.I.F private on the 1st of March 1916, at the age of 36. After enlisting, Peter boarded the HMAT A70 Ballarat from the Adelaide deport on the 12th of august 1916 and left Australia to fight in France. He then arrived in France and was wounded a year later and discharged to a summer rest camp in. He then rejoined his unit 20 days later. Peter was then wounded a second time nearly a year later and admitted to a hospital in Le Havre, France. He then rejoined his unit and fought valiantly for 2 months until he was unfortunately killed in action. Even though Peter died, he was still awarded the British War Medal and the Victory medal for his service to his country.
