Son of William Smith Ormston and Christina Ormston nee Young of Stawell, Victoria.

Brother of John Ormston who was killed in action on 21 September 1917 while serving with the 6th Battalion and is buried in Tyne Cot Cemetery, Plot XL11, Row D, Grave 18.
