Josiah was the third of eight children of William Dawson Scott (b1857 in Wonnerup, WA) and Mary Ann Stinton (b1862 in Murray River, WA). William (a Labourer) and Mary Ann married in 1855 In Picton Junction, WA and settled in Kirup where William was a Hewer for the Quindalup Saw Mill.
Josiah was working as a Farrier in Kirup WA when he enlisted in the AIF in 1916 - he had been with 25th Light Horse Regiment for the past two years. Josiah was a Private (Service No:4537) with 28th Infantry Battalion in France - he was hospitalised with Mumps and Trench Feet - and was Discharged in November 1917.
In 1920 Josiah was a Clerk in Perth WA when he married Amy Elizabeth Annette Clayton (b1893 in Perth WA). The couple settled in Perth where Josiah worked as a Civil Servant (Clerk). Amy died in 1960 and Josiah in 1961.
