Alfred Wood - Life
Alfred Wood was born on 27th July 1882 in York, England to John Thomas and Georgiana Wood (nee Walfe), the 2nd of 5 children. He was baptised on 6th August 1882 at the Primitive Methodist Church, York.
In 1907 he married Kathleen Elizabeth Charlotte Honeybun and in 1911 they were living at 6 Beresford Terrace, York, England with 2 of their children, William Alfred and Dennis Walfe. Alfred was employed as a Master Bricklayer.
On 29th February 1912, Alfred, Kathleen, William, Dennis and baby Kathleen left London, England on the SS Gothic, Aberdeen Line for Sydney, Australia. Unfortunately, their daughter, Kathleen, died later in 1912 and Alfred and Kathleen went on to have 2 more children, Kathleen and Betty.
Alfred and Kathleen's son, William Alfred, went onto serve during World War II with the Australian Infantry, 2nd Btn (Service Number 22572) and died on 29th August 1943 whilst a Prisoner of War in Burma. William Alfred is buried at Thanbyuzayat War Cemetery.
