BETTER LOVE HATH NO MAN HE LAY DOWN HIS LIFE FOR HIS FRIENDS
MADIGAN.—In proud and loving memory of our dearly beloved son and brother, Sgt. T. Madigan, killed in action, at Pozieres, August 10, 1916.
A better son never lived,
Nor one so true and kind,
His equal in this weary world
We very rarely find.
His loving smiles and happy ways
Are pleasant to recall,
He always had a pleasant word,
And died beloved by all.
An Anzac hero at rest.
(Inserted by his sorrowing parents, sisters, and brothers.)
He gave his life for his country,
For honor, faith, and right,
With us his memory ever lives,
He fought a noble fight.
(Inserted by his loving uncle and aunt, Fred and Mary Marsh, Welsby-street, New Farm.)
MADIGAN.—In loving remembrance of Sergeant T. Madlgan, who was killed in action, on August 10, 1916.
Forget not the soul of the young and brave,
He knew that he might fall.
He sighed at the thought of a soldier's grave,
He followed duty's call.
He played with death as with a toy,
He won a deathless fame,
God has taken him now to his resting place,
He trusted in God's Name.
