Son of James Daniel PHILLIPS and Elizabeth Annie nee CLIFT of Curramulka, Yorke Peninsula, SA

Daniel PHILLIPS was born on 18 December 1893 at Tiparra, to James Daniel PHILLIPS, a farmer,[1] and Annie Elizabeth (CLIFT) of Currumulka.[2] Daniel attended Agery School where he was registered on 30 September 1901. He left on 28 June 1907.
Daniel was a farm labourer who enlisted at Adelaide, South Australia, on 4 May 1916 at age 22 and 4 months, Service No 3607, 32nd Battalion, AIF. He was a member of the Minlaton Rifle Club. Daniel had a medium complexion, hazel eyes and dark brown hair. He was 5 feet 9 and ¾ inches tall. His religion was Wesleyan.
His next of kin were advised of Daniel’s return to Australia on 1 August 1919. He was discharged on 1 January 1920 as a Lance Corporal.
Daniel died on 25 December 1970 at Port Vincent, South Australia. His death was reported by Lizzie Ulga PHILLIPS, his wife (111A/10081).

[1] James died at Currumulka, aged 65 years (490/478). James’ parents married on the Isle of Wight and came to Australia in 1875. Golden Wedding. - Mr and Mrs Daniel Phillips, of East Moonta, celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of their wedding Saturday evening; Both parties were born and married at the Isle of Wight, England, where they remained for 23 years. They came to Australia in 1875, in the ship Lady Jocelyn, and for two years resided at Hindmarsh Island. Then they came to Yorke's Peninsula, where they took up a farm at Arthurton, and remained there until obliged to relinquish farming last year through failing health/ They have since resided at East Moonta where the event was celebrated. A large circle of friends took part in the proceedings, and the presents were numerous and useful. After doing justice to an ample spread Mr Phillips gave some of his experiences in the early days, and games, Cornish tales, and singing were indulged in. The family consists of four sons and three daughters,-all of whom ace married, namely, Mrs B. Beere (Isle of Wight), Mrs E. Peters (Kent), Mr S. J. Phillips (Callington), Mr J. D. Phillips (Agery), Mr W. H. Phillips (Wallaroo); Mr C. A. Phillips (Southwark, S. A ) and Mrs R. F. Denyer (Queensland): Yorke's Peninsula Advertiser (SA : 1878 - 1922), Friday 22 May 1903, page 2. James died on 27 September 1911 in Moonta, SA.
