Add my storyBiography contributed by Stephen Brooks
Joseph Scott was the son of Joseph and Mary Scott of Launceston, Tasmania. The father, Joseph, died in a work tramway accident in Tasmania during 1915, at 60 years of age.
Joseph was a miner and he had gone to Broken Hill, New South Wales for work. He enlisted in early 1916, shortly after his Dad’s death, in Adelaide, South Australia.
Joseph was a member of the 48th Battalion and joined the unit on the Western Front in February 1917. He was made a Lance Corporal after the fighting around Ypres in late 1917. Joseph had a couple of weeks leave in England before he was killed in action as part of the force holding back the German offensive near Dernancourt. He has no known grave.
Joseph was Mrs. Scott’s eldest son, and he died three days before his 31st birthday.
