Robert Tinsey Murrell was born on the 14th of February 1887 and was the 4th 8 children to Frederick Murrell Jr and Frances Roberts. Growing up in Two Wells, SA he married Maude Jane Louisa May in Norwood on the 29th of March 1907 at the age of 20. In 1911 the two had their first child, Ronald Llwellyn Murrell, it is unclear if the couple had more children or not. Murrell’s job before enlistment was a publican in Two Wells. After he enlisted his family resided on John Street in Eastwood, Adelaide.

Robert Tinsey Murrell signed up to enlist on the 20th of January 1916. He was sent off for training in South Australia joining the 3rd brigade of the 9th Light Horse Regiment. He embarked overseas to Port Said on the 8th of May, 1916 on board HMAT Kabinga. He served in the Middle East and returned safely to Australia in April 1919.

Murrell was discharged on the 13th of June, 1919. His wife passed away in 1937 at the age of 53. Murrell himself died in 1951 on the 27th of July and was seemingly buried at Mitcham Anglican Cemetery
