Reginald Mundy arrived in France in March 1916 and the 28th Battalion took part in its first major battle at Pozières on 28 July. Initially reported as missing after the battle, Mundy was later officially listed as killed in action on 29 July 1916, aged 20. He has no known grave. 

Reginald Mundy was one of three brothers who served in the First World War. His younger brother 2944 Pte. William Harold (Billy) Mundy, 48th Battalion, was killed in action in France on 5 April 1918, aged 20. His eldest brother 841 Pte. Edward Murray Mundy 12th Battalion took part in the first landing at Gallipoli 25th April 1915. After 4 and a half years of service he returned with the first Anzacs.

Their parents were Edward and Lavinia Mundy, of Taylors Well, Pingelly, Western Australia.
