His youngest brother, 468A Pte. Alexander Britton Samuels, 13th Battalion AIF was later killed in action at Bullecourt on 11 April 1917, aged 28. Another brother, Frederick Charles Samuels served with the Artillery in France and returned to Australia in 1919.

They were the sons of Henry Robert Samuels and Jane Evans Samuels, formerly of Trangie, NSW, both of whom had passed away prior to war.
