Thomas William Eglinton

Thomas William Eglinton was born at Forest Range on the 1st September 1885 and worked as a gardener. He enlisted in Adelaide on the 29th February 1916. Eglinton proceeded overseas on the 2nd November 1916. Thomas and Florence Edwards had only been married for a week before he went overseas {interview with Janice Forsberg 18/2/2011.}. However, he suffered a bout of measles in late 1916 and contracted influenza and jaundice in November of that year. Eglinton was sent to France with his unit, the 50th Battalion in March 1917. On the 6th April 1917 Eglinton was wounded in action in France, receiving a gunshot wound to his right thigh. Consequently, he was hospitalised in England, rejoining his unit in France on the 17th October 1917. Eglinton was killed in action on the 9th May 1918.
He was initially buried in an isolated grave in Villers-Bretonneux, but was reburied in the Adelaide British Cemetery Villers-Bretonneux, France.
