James was the son of William Henry MORLEY & Isabella Anne DAVEY and was born on the 23rd of November 1893 in Horsham, VIC.

James died in the Mt Gambier Hospital on the 23rd of January 1949 and he was buried 2 days later in the Lake Terrace Cemetery, Mt Gambier; Section LA, Plot 418.

His Memorial Plaque is in the Victorian Garden of Remembrance; Wall 19, Row C.

Military

At the age of 22, James enlisted in the 1st AIF on the 9th of February 1916 in Adelaide and was allotted the service number 5406 and posted to A Company, 2nd Depot Battalion in Mitcham Camp.
He listed his mother, of Yahl Paddock, Mt Gambier, SA, as his next of kin.

On the 1st of March was transferred to the 10th Battalion, 17th Reinforcements.

James embarked from Adelaide on board HMAT A60 Aeneas on the 11th of April 1916, disembarked in Plymouth and marched into the 3rd Training Battalion in Perham Downs.

He was taken on strength to No. 1 Com Depot. 11.7.1917 attached to Army Ordnance Corps in England. Return to Australia 18.1.1919. Discharge 24.4.1919.
