He emigrated to Australia aged 18 and enlisted Dungog, New South Wales, Australia. Religion Church of England.
He was 21 and the son of Charles and Mary Ann Merrifield, of 19, Garfield Avenue, Bournemouth.
His brother also fell. He was Private L.C. Merrifield, Service Number 13547, aged 29. He served with the 7th Bn. Wiltshire Regiment-died 5th March 1919 and interred in
Grave I. H. 9. at BLARGIES COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION.
The brothers are honoured on the Bournemouth St Clement’s War Memorial.
