Francis David Osborne was promoted to Lance Corporal in Egypt 26 May 1916. 

He disembarked Marseilles, France, 23 June 1916 and was posted as missing at Fromelles 20 July 1916. At a Court of Enquiry, held in the field, 12 August 1917, he was pronounced as 'Killed in Action, 20 July 1916'.

His younger brother, 3580 Pte. William Johnstone 44th Battalion AIF was killed in action 7 September 1918, aged 28.
