Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Benjamin Walter Thomson was the second child of of John Claud Thomson (born in Queanbayan, NSW) and Mary Ann Woodhouse (born Spring Creek, NSW). Ben's mother died in 1896 when he was 3 years of age, and his father remarried in 1901, having 6 children with second wife Stella Adeline Williams.

Ben states he was a Farmer at Yarraman Creek in 1916 in his Attestation Papers, although the Electoral Records for 1915 and 1916 state his occupation is Labourer. He served in the AIF 31st Battalion 8th Reinforcements as a Private (Service No: 3461) and was in France from 19 August 1916 to 5 August 1919.

Following his Discharge on 21 September 1919, Ben returned to Yarraman Creek near Crow's Nest on the Darling Downs in QLD, and worked as a Labourer. He married Elsie Isabella Heale in 1921 at Yarraman, and the family lived in the region and Ben worked as a Labourer and Carrier. In 1932, Ben was a Farmer at Cooyar in Crow's Nest on the Darling Downs in QLD.

By the mid 1930s the family had moved to Brisbane, QLD where Ben worked as a Labourer until he retired in 1942, when he and Elsie moved to Landsborough in Wide Bay, QLD. Ben died in 1950
