Thomas BROOKS (1879– 1949)
Thomas was born in Euralia, South Australia, in the 1890 the family moved to Western Australia, first to Kalgoorlie and then to farm at Boyanup. Quite a few family members settled in Western Australia, his parents both died there and also several siblings.
But Thomas had returned to Victoria at some stage and worked in the Wimmera.
Thomas BROOKS had enlisted for WW1 in 1915 from Jeparit as a farmer at 36yrs and stated he was a Roman Catholic. He was 5’5 I/4 inches in height, weighed 10 stone, dark hair & complexion and blue eyes.
WW1 AIF Private 4750 Enlisted 27/7/1915, Returned to Australia 23/3/1919. 5th Battalion,
15th Reinforcement. He went from Broadmeadows camp and embarked from Melbourne, Vic, on board HMAT A18 Wiltshire on 7 March 1916. He was in France by 30/7/16 and fought there until 8/10/18 when he received serious gun shot wounds to his left arm & leg. His left femur was seriously fractured as a result and he was admitted to hospital 3rd Western General Hospital, Cardiff.
He was sent home to Australia on the H.S Czar/ H.S Dongala 23/3/19 and disembarked 16/5/19.
