Add my storyBiography contributed by Stephen Brooks
Thomas Hobbs was one of four sons of Robert and Fanny Hobbs of Mendooran, New South Wales, who served overseas during WW1. The father, Robert, had passed away during 1900.
His two brothers, 1933 Pte. Arthur Hobbs 45th Battalion AIF and 1664 Pte. Charles Hobbs 54th Battalion AIF, were both killed in action in the space of six weeks during 1917.
Thomas was returned to Australia for family reasons in July 1918, probably due to the fact he had already lost two brothers and had a widowed mother in Australia. Another brother, Henry Hobbs, was also sent home in late 1918, with malaria.
Thomas married in 1929 and raised three children. Thomas died suddenly of heart failure during 1944, being found on the verandah of his property. He had spent the whole of his life in the Mendooran and Gilgandra districts, going to the property "Irimba" about 1912, when the blocks were thrown open there. On the land he proved successful, being an industrious and efficient manager. His wife had also died suddenly about six years previous.
