PTE. H. MOLLOY, D.C.M.,
who was recently awarded the D.C.M., the official account of his exploits reading: 'He showed an utter contempt for danger in carrying wounded men back to the trenches and supplying them with water from the water bottles of dead soldiers.' Pte. Molloy, prior to enlistment, was employed as a fitter in the Midland Junction workshops, and was well known in Bellevue, where he had resided tor 14 years. He was a member of the A.M.C. in the original 28th Battalion, with which he was for some time in Gallipoli. It was while
there that he renewed acquaintance with a German named Fred Schack, who was also employed for some time in the Midland workshops. Molloy, who was acting as stretcher bearer, was hailed by Schack from the Turkish trenches, the latter making some inquiries about former shop mates. Schack was in Australia at the time war broke out, but by some means eluded the vigilance of the authorities and succeeded in getting away to enemy territory.
Pte. Molloy was at the evacuation of Gallipoli, and is now with his Battalion in France, where he earned the recent distinction. He also has a son, Robert, fighting in France. The latter left here with the 13/10th Light Horse, but subsequently transferred to the Artillery. Pte. Molloy' s wife, daughter and second son, are still at Bellevue.
