Son of an aboriginal woman called Sarah and Charles MELBOURNE
MELBOURNE, Dec. 3.—Following the discovery by police on Sunday morning of the body of a half-caste aboriginal named James Edward Melbourne, in the room of a house at which he lived in Tope-street, South Melbourne, George Thomas Moore (60), shearer, of Tope street, South Melbourne, appeared at the South Melbourne Court today, charged with having, on or about December 11, murdered Melbourne. Detective H. R. Donelly said that, at 9.30 am. on Sunday, the body of James Edward Melbourne was found in the kitchen of a house in Tope-street. His head had been battered. At the rear of the house a bloodstained axe was found. Moore was in the house. At the detective office, it was alleged, Moore made certain admissions regarding Melbourne's death. No application was made for bail and a remand until Monday was granted.
