WILLIAM THOMAS CLARK

WILLIAM THOMAS CLARK (1891-1930) born at Yass, son of Edward Henry Kennedy and Ellen Elizabeth Clark nee Webster. William enlisted on August 19th, 1914 as Private 30, 1st Light Horse Regiment - 4th Division Ammunition Column. Training was undertaken as a Gunner, Driver and Bombardier at Roseberry and other camps. He embarked on the Star of Victoria HMAT A16 on October 20th, 1914. He was sent to MEF Gallipoli On May 9th, 1915. where he suffered from Appendicitis and sent to Tigne Military Hospital at Malta. During his time in Egypt and Europe he was in hospital in Malta, Bethnal Green where the scar, which had become abscessed was re-opened, undertook a Machine Gun training course at Weymouth where he received a 1st class pass., and was sent back to the MEF where he was transferred to the Artillery at Tel-el.kiba.
Then he embarked on the Corsican at Alexandra for service in France. He was troubled by Mustard Gas in 1917 and was sent back to an English hospital. He was back in France in January. He was promoted to Bombardier in 1918, and had an injury to his neck in February 1918. He was raised to Corporal in June 1918 and Sargent in September and was attached to a B.A. Cadet School. Listed for return to Australia on October 18th, 1918 on board the Taranto. He received his discharge on February 3rd, 1919. [DAVIS OF GOUNYAN - ROLL OF HONOUR - BM Pittman]
