A farm labourer from Woodvale, Vic prior to enlistment, Pte 5162 Alfred Priest embarked with the 6th Battalion, 16th Reinforcements, from Melbourne on HMAT Suffolk on 1 April 1916.
After twice being wounded in action, he was promoted to Lance Corporal and, after being wounded for the third time, he succumbed to these wounds and died at No. 8 Stationary Hospital, Wimereux, France on 27 May 1918, aged 24.
He was buried in the Boulogne Eastern Cemetery, France.
