Ballie John Harold was a soldier during world war one. He was born in Hindmarsh S.A. and lived on 41 Hughes street, mile end, South Australia with his mother Sarah Ballie. He was 5ft 7 and weighed about 194 lbs (87kg). Some of his facial features included him having dark brown hair and brown eyes. He originally worked as an electrical fitter, repairing electric motors before he started serving the army. It was also known that he followed the presbyterian religion.
He was enlisted in the A.I.F. at Adelaide on 6th of June,1916 at the age of 26. He then embarked for active service abroad 25th of September. He returned to Australia and was awarded a sapper military medal for his bravery on the field, he completed a variety of military engineering duties such as demolitions, bridge-building, laying or clearing minefields, preparing field defences, as well as working on road and airfield construction and repair. He was later discharged from the A.IF. and returned to Adelaide on the 18th of July 1919.
