Hugh Crofton Pain seemed incapable of keeping out of strife and the newspapers.
16/9/1920 SMH p.5 He was taken to court by the doctor who operated on his wife, Dr John Deakin of 203 Macquarie Street for the sum of 29 Pounds, Eighteen Shillings owing. He denied the indebtedness as the operation was carried out without his, or his wife's instructions.She consequently died, he claimed. The verdict went against him.
Evening News 27/8/1925 p.10 He was fined 3 Poinds at North Sydney Court for having put a notice in his shop's window at Mosman - Hugh Crofton Paine, Veterinary Surgeon - which was against the Veterinary Surgeons Act.
Courier-Mail 1/4/1938 p.8 50 Pounds in fines imposed for writing poison prescriptions, viz morphine. He had been refused registration. (In 1935 he had been fined for having morphine in his possession - Courier-Mail 29/3/1935 p.11)
