Son of Alfred Emblem Wheatley and Margaret Wheatley nee Noonan of 1 Athol Street, Moonee Ponds, Victoria.

Private Noel Charles Wheatley (killed) was the youngest. son of Mr. Alfred E. Wheatley, until recently registrar of titles. He lived at Athol street, Moonee Ponds. He was educated at Ascot Vale State school. Private Wheatley was a member of one of the machine gun sections of the 5th Battalion, to which he acted as scout. Two of his brothers, G. A. Wheatley, the well-known long distance amateur champion, and H Wheatley, are now in camp at the Show Grounds.  Deceased was a prominent member of St. Thomas's Harriers, Essendon, and was popular in that district. where he had lived almost all his life.

Brother of Alice Emblem Gertrude Wheatley, Leslie Hepburn Wheatley, John Emblem Wheatley, George Norman Francis Wheatley, Albert William Gregory Wheatley who returned to Australia on 8 April 1919 having served with the 29th Battalion, Kathleen Marion May Wheatley and Horace David Emblem Wheatley who returned to Australia on 22 May 1919 having served in the 29th Battalion
