Great Sydney Central Station Honour Board

Charles Douglas CAMPBELL, (Service Number 14478) was born on 10 August 1890 in Leeds, Yorkshire. He began working for the NSW Railways as a temporary porter in the Sydney district only a few days after the war was declared in August 1914. He remained in that role until the end of 1915 when he was granted leave to join the Expeditionary Forces. At first, he served with the 15th Field Ambulance but transferred to the 14th from 10 December.
He was wounded in action in Belgium with a gunshot to his abdomen and evacuated on 23 September 1917. Admitted to the 17th Casualty Clearing Station he died of his wounds on 23 September 1917.
