Biography contributed by Maree Worland

John James (Jack) BELL took up a Soldier Settlement selection Portion No: 27, Parish: Springbok, County: Westgrove, Land Agents District: Roma, WT 96, Bungil Shire Map on 8 December 1921. His brother Edward Henry (Ted) took over this portion on 1 April 1932.

Jack BELL left the Gunewinn area during the depression years, possibly before 1932. He received unemployment benefits. The family never personally heard from him again

Jack died on 9 September 1968. He had been living in a boarding house in Adelaide Street, Brisbane for a number of years. The people running the boarding house had no idea who his next-of-kin were. Some of his mates knew he had relatives out Injune way so they rang all the Bells in the Injune area until they tracked his brother Edward Henry (Ted) BELL down. Ted and his wife Pat and son Teddy went to Brisbane for Jack's funeral.

Jack was buried after a service at 1.15pm on 15 September 1968 at the Mt Graveatt Cemetery. Funeral director was Alex Gow Pty Ltd, 56 Breakfast Creek Road, Newstead Brisbane.
